Our Clients

Recent clients have included:

National Grid plc: As part of a team from Efficio (strategic sourcing specialists), I helped deliver National Grid’s Global Procurement Transformation Programme.  Currently, NG spends approx £3.5 billion pa on goods and services, and my role was to lead the project team looking at the way that NG uses Electricity Transmission Alliances to deliver its electricity transmission capital investment programme. Our focus was on overhead lines construction, where projects are delivered by NG’s Alliance partners Balfour Beatty, Amec, Babcock, and Mott MacDonald under a target cost and incentive mechanism

Modern Water plc: As Business Development Director, my role in this newly-listed company was to review, prioritise, and coordinate the myriad current BD efforts, to develop and implement a structured approach for setting target markets/industries, and to identify and assess new business opportunities.  Key successes include:

identifying potentially interesting assets in Australia and the Caribbean for acquisition, and making the initial advances to the owners

working with academics and engineers to develop the ‘cooling tower’ offering from an outline concept to a saleable product

working with NGOs and Govt agencies to win accreditation for MW products/service

Department for International Development: As Interim Managing Director of Montserrat Utilities Ltd, the state-owned utility responsible for electricity, water and sewerage services on Montserrat, I have:

designed and led a merger of the existing state-owned electricity and water companies in Montserrat, serving as both change manager and inaugural MD

worked with funding agencies, development banks, and international engineering consultancies to drive forward infrastructure programmes in power, water, and sewerage

negotiated, on behalf of the Government of Montserrat, licenses to develop geothermal and other energy projects on Montserrat

led the development of Montserrat’s National Energy Policy, in the context of major structural change in the sector and the region

set up a systematic tender process to secure the best outcome for the island from prospective energy project developers

RWE/npower: as part of an AT Kearney team, I led the Retail Strategy part of the project, helping npower management identify and then deliver cost reductions and revenue gains. The main gains were made in rationalising staff numbers and locations, and in introducing new tariff structures for  specific niches to reduce customer churn

PSE (the Polish transmission company): drawing upon our international experience of working with other transmission companies, we advised PSE on likely regulatory developments and reporting requirements in Poland, and helped them design and then build an in-house regulatory management team

UK Central Government (Dept for Education & Skills): advised on the creation of a joint programme between the Dept and HEFCE (it's major delivery agent) to deliver the HE strategy (including the introduction of deferred variable tuition fees).  We advised on programme structure and organisation and provided ongoing programme management support.  We also assisted in the development of tools and processes for managing progress, risks, and interfaces, and developed the pilot website for sharing information within the programme.
